A Weed Speaking

Here I am a weed, moving with the wind, rain and shine. I constantly hear that I’m growing in the wrong place and at the wrong time.

I feel that I am a plant as any other plant. I have the same requirements as other plants – light, water, nutrients.

Everyone tells me that I’m growing where I’m not wanted. I’ve been here for a long time. I started as a seed who is trying to survive in this controlling world.

I am a survivor, springing up and bursting with energy but persistently told that I don’t belong in this environment. I’m told that I need to be pulled out and move away.

I try to say that it is the right place for me and that is why I’m growing wildly, rampantly, full of colour and beauty. I even replenish the soil.

Yes, I am a weed until I see some youngsters running across the field, picking me up, admiring my leaves, stem and bright yellow flowers.

I see them creating garlands and wearing me in their hair – celebrating with dance and song. It is their special day and it is my special day.

I’m no longer the unwanted weed. I am a desirable, beautiful and celebratory plant.
